Palin to visit Bangor airport rally

AUGUSTA -- Vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will appear at a rally Thursday in Bangor as she winds up a series of campaign stops taking her from the South to New England.

The Maine Republican Party said the doors will open at 8 a.m. at the Bangor International Airport maintenance hangar, where the rally is scheduled to start an hour later. Party Chairman Mark Ellis encouraged supporters to arrive early because a big crowd is expected.

"We are already seeing enormous interest in Gov. Palin's visit to Maine," said Jeff Grappone, spokesman for the McCain-Palin campaign in New England, who expects a crowd in the thousands.

Tickets for the Bangor rally were made available Monday at GOP campaign offices in Bangor, Lewiston, Portland, Machias and Caribou.

"Due to the enormous and enthusiastic response we are seeing for Governor Palin's visit to Bangor Thursday, we have had to change the venue to a larger site at the Bangor Airport," said Maine Republican Party Chairman Mark Ellis. "We want to make sure that everyone who wishes to attend the rally and see Governor Palin has the opportunity to do so. We will now hold the Road to Victory Rally with Governor Palin in Hangar 11 at 40 Wyoming Avenue. And we are excited to announce that country music star Lee Greenwood will join Governor Palin and perform Thursday morning. We are still encouraging people to arrive early. Doors open at 8:00 a.m."
