Good progressive stations?

I have plain old radio--no XM/Sirius. I listen to NPR sometimes and the other day I tried listening to 89.3FM, which according to Pacifica Radio's website is supposed to be their DC area sister station. However all I heard whenever I tuned in was jazz music, no news or commentary.

Does anybody know of any progressive news/commentary stations in this area?:shrug:

1. Do you have a decent Internet connection?

6. Do you know how the sound quality is on dial up?

I can't afford broadband or cable, plus I have to use a phone line connection as I need the portability since I frequently log on away from home.

3. You need to get XM! Air America & Liberal Stations are Great!

You'll find a few if you flip through FM and AM, but we've got that station to the north in control, if you know what I mean.

If I can think of it, I'll note the few liberal radio stations on the regular dial and list them here this week.

Pretty rough here in reportedly "liberal" Baltimore.

4. I would do XM, but I'm on a budget

I work human services after all...in one of the jobs I've been 18 years in the same field and I make only $3.50 more than when I started. I'm in the process of paying off some bills and when that's done I have to start saving up for grad school and retirement (can't depend on SS to be there when I'm elderly). XM is something I just can't afford to splurge for right now :-(
