Mayor O'Mally spoke at the Lackwanna County (Scranton, PA) Friendly Sons of St. Patrick dinner on Friday night which I attended. This guy is the real deal. Gave a great speech. Sang in Gaelic which was just awesome. He also went to the bars after. You guys are lucky to have someone like him. I could def see him in national politics someday. How do you guys feel about him?

1. I think O'Malley is great |
|
smart, down to earth and charismatic. He has a high likeability quotient, and while it should not be important, it is. I think he has a great future and hope he will be in the Governor's mansion this time next year.

2. He's a great speaker, but his record is beginning to catch up with |
|
him. Ive seen a sharp decrease in interest for O'Malley in my area over the last 2 months or so.

3. some ugly political baggage in baltimore |
|
he's grown some real local enemies. Anywhere outside of Baltimore, no one will ahve heard any of these stories. I'll support anyone else in sept primaries, but I'll agree with you he does have political charm and knows how to perform.

means Duncan as he is the only other Democrat running. I am curious as to why you don't say that. And please, I am weary of the generic "baggage" labeling. I have seen it applied to both O'Malley and Mfume and it is tiresome. The fact is, there is not politician without "ugly political baggage" and there is no politician of any substance who has not "grown some real local enemies".
I like O'Malley and I like Mfume. I will support them both in the primary. That being said I will support the democratic nominee in November, whether it be Duncan or O'Malley in the Gubernatorial; Cardin or Mfume in the Senate (other other should they gain any ground).

The term "baggage" is too carelessly used. It may mean a genuine worry--that is "There are things in his past the voters might not like," or it may mean a generalized slur--just hinting at things which may not even exist but just trying to spook people. Notice how many times Kerry was referred to as having "baggage?" and you hear baggage-baggage-baggage about Hillary. Somebody once said about my Governor of Illinois "He has a name nobody can pronounce or spell and other baggage." Notice a) the malice b) the damn furrin'-soundin' name is the most important thing.

7. It appears you find the overuse |
|
of the term a bit tireseome as well. I think you are right about the "hinting at things which may not even exist, but justing trying to spook people."

8. Actually I like Mfume and will vote for him |
|
I don't care for O'Malley one bit. O'malley has pissed off alot of working people in Baltimore...ie. Police and Fire, contractors etc. And No....I'm not going to repeat rumour and innuendo on the internet. I'm not a great fan of Duncan either...but at this point he's definitely the lesser of the available evils.

O'Malley. I don't think either O'Malley or Duncan are evil, I think the putz currently residing in Annapolis is the evil. That being said, I don't have a problem with you not caring for O'Malley, this is why we have a primary. I am just a little weary with people trying to convince others that unidentified "baggage" is a reason not to vote for a popular candidate. Thank you for not repeating rumor and innuendo, since rumor and innuendo should not even be a consideration.

11. They said the same thing about Ed Rendell and his 'enemies' |
|
but in the long run Rendell won Pennsylvania because of the amazing voter turnout he got from Philadelphia and the surrounding counties (some which had higher returns for Rendell than the city even with republicans winning the congressional races).

I wish Duncan would attack Ehrlich and not O'Malley. A lot of people are turned off by Duncan's negative ads against a fellow Dem.
