Need help with a question about transfering car tags |
|
A friend of mine who lives here in Maryland just bought a car in New Jersey (her boyfriend lives up there) and is having a very hard time getting Maryland tags for it. Here's her email to me...does anyone have any suggestions? She's been to the MVA a number of times and has pretty much received no help from them and the dealership in Jersey seems clueless as to what she needs to do as well.
Thanks! :hi:
All I'm trying to do is transfer the tags from my old car to my new car. You wouldn't think that it would be such a pain... but apparently it's stumped me so I'm not sure how other people manage to get it done. Maybe the problem is that my car is financed and that I bought it from an out of state dealership? I dunno! So far the MVA has told me to fill out an "Application for Certificate of Title"... and I have the odometer statement, the inspection, proof of insurance, and bill of sale but I don't seem to have a "Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin"... the dealership (in Jersey) seems puzzled that I would need this because they wanted to know if I was doing my own "title work"... well I don't have the title because it's financed. I just want to be able to drive my car with md tags.

2. When I moved to MD a couple of years ago, |

we had to x-fer both of our cars from CT. Both had loans and we had to get the original title from the lending agency (i.e. bank). Just call them up and they will send it to you. You will need the title to register when you move into MD (or any state for that matter). The title is what the MVA is looking for.
Good luck!!
