MD's early voting law ruled unconstitutional...
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 05:31 PM by nickshepDEM
Early voting in Maryland is illegal because the state's constitution allows only one day to cast ballots, an Anne Arundel County Circuit Court judge ruled Friday.

Judge Ronald Silkworth sided with voters who sued over the plan to allow people to cast ballots five days before the primary and general elections, starting this year.

Silkworth ruled early voting would be illegal because the constitution allows voting only on a single day in November, not for several days. Silkworth also ruled that it would be illegal to permit voters to cast ballots outside their home precincts, as allowed under the new early voting law.

2. So there's exactly 1 month before primary...
Why haven't I heard any campaign debates, seen any commercials yet? How are the Dem candidates stacking up with voters? I've not seen much news at all...

3. Are you in the Baltimore area?

I am and Ive been completely bombarded with political ads.

Ehrlich is dominating the airwaves, but that is to be expected. After all, the guy has over 18 MILLION in cash.

O'Malley is dropping a decent chunk of change on ads. Most of his ads have been good too. The new college ad is great.

Rales is spending an uber amount of his personal wealth on ads.

Cardin just recently released a great ad that features his 30 years in public service.

The Democratic candidates for Senate debated a couple weeks ago at the University of Maryland, College Park. The debate was not televised though.

4. The Sun Article was a great cover of this
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/politics/bal-voting0811,0,4644026.story?coll=bal-home-headlines

Though Someone needs to talk to Sen. Gladden about her quote.

"A constitution is a living, breathing document," she said. "If you always literally interpret the constitution you get strange results, like 'all men are created equal,' so what do you do with the women?"

Isn't "All men are created equal' from the Delegation of Independence not the Constitution?

Overall though this is more balanced coverage I have seen of this, and I am glad Andy Green gave me the closing quote. PS everyone should know that the technology they wanted to use for Early voting was not going to be ready (secure, un-hackable) until next year. Thats according to Diebold.

How were the Dem debates? How's Mfume stacking up with Cardin?

I'm still a little more worried about the gubernatorial race. Erhlich is having Guiliani campaign for him instead of Bush! LOL!!

7. The debate was pretty much a joke from what Ive heard/read.
The candidates agreed on 90% of the issues. Apparently several of the candidates ganged up on Cardin for funding the war in Iraq, despite that fact that he voted against the original Iraq War Resolution.

8. That's why its more fun to
rip on his, pro-patriot act, pro-WTO/"Free Trade", Anti-Freedom of the Web policy's.

If Cardin had his way, it would take you 3 days to get onto DU as load up time would be up to the private cooperations, and every message you post would be monitored by the NSA & be subject to the approval of Halliburton.

Being Anti-War in MD is a gimme, EVERYONE is anti war even most Republicans (52%) think the war was a mistake and favor draw down of troops (the Cardin-Steele position). You have to actually stand for something. Cardin is not a Democrat who will win on the war issue, his "I was against it before I supported it position" wont resonate with hardliners, and if there is one thing liberals need to learn from watching the GOP ist that you win by getting after your base.... and buying voting machine companies.
