MD GOVERNORMartin O'Malley (D) 46%
Robert Ehrlich (R) 42%
This poll was done August 18-25 among 843 registered voters. The previous Gonzales poll back in April had similar results, O'Malley ahead 46%-41%.
The poll was conducted by Gonzales Research, a polling firm that primarily focuses on the state of Maryland. The founder and president of Gonzales Research used to be the president of Mason Dixon Polling.
Gonzales was very accurate in the 2002 gubernatorial race between Bob Ehrlich and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.
http://www.garesearch.comIn my opinion these numbers look about right; however, Im convinced if O'Malley does not go on the offensive and begin define himself rather than letting Ehrlich do the job, the gap will close, and we may see a very different result in november. Ehrlich continues to bash Baltimore for having the worst school system in the state and thats a fact, but he never once mentions that O'Malley inherited the worst school system in the state and has steadily been making progress. Since 1999 Graduation rates are up (38 to 60), K-12 testing is up, and the most recent batch of HSA results show Baltimore students outpacing the rest of the state.
