Voted this morning in Anne Arundel County....pretty good turn out.

I didn't have to wait, but all of the machines were being used when I left (and a line was starting to form for folks who were waiting to vote).

1. Voted in Silve Spring.

7th at 6:45am this morning. many many more showed up by 7am. The voters in my precint were out in force. Our precint vote 77% for Kerry. :-)

2. I had a wait.

Two years ago there were apparently lines as well, but at that time I voted by absentee ballot (which I HAND-DELIVERED due to residual paranoia:grr:) and was volunteering in a swing state on Election Day.

This time I went to my regular polling place in Montgomery County and found a line out the door of the building. And that was just the eligibility verification line. After getting confirmed, we had to get into the line for the booths.

It took about 35 minutes, all told, and by the time I left the line was extending across the parking lot. It's a good thing I didn't leave it until any later, or I would have been late to work.

All in all, a promising sight, all those people queued up.

Democratic volunteers were at the Metro and bus stop to offer rides to the polls, too.

3. Voted in AA county too, some problems though

I wish I could say everything was running smoothly when my dad and I showed up to vote this morning at around 7:15am. There was a long line, almost to the door, because they were having trouble getting the cards for the electronic voting machines to work. People were being given provisional ballots. At least one person in line was on their cell phone to report the problems, and of course alot of people were pissed off; unfortunately several people left.

Luckily, I suppose, they were able to get the machines working by the time I got to the front of the line, but I was already pissed. As if there weren't enough problems during the primaries! Even my dad (who is a registered Repub, why I don't know, I'm unaffiliated) was ticked off with Diebold!

When I went to get coffee afterwards, I was told by the lady making my drink that the people voting at my former high school were still not able to use the machines. Fucking disgrace. Something needs to be done about our voting system - fast. This was my first experience voting in person; back in '04 I had to vote via Absentee ballot cuz I was in college (in Lynchburg, VA, where Falwell's Liberty "University" is also located; I went to R-MWC). It was not an encouraging experience, voting today, but it will not stop me from voting again!

I'm crossing my fingers hoping that somehow we will prevail today.

4. Just back from voting in Baltimore County...

Even though it was an off time (10:30 am) there was a pretty big crowd. Keeping all fingers and toes crossed.

5. at 9:00 today in Baltimore City there was a 30 minute wait

the line got much longer as I got to the front. We did not, however, have the problems we had in the primary - in fact things seemed to be running fairly smoothly.

7. Waited a few minutes in line in Montgomery County.

8. No line in my MoCo polling place

but that's because I called my husband, a poll observer, to ask how long the wait was. When he told me it was the slowest they had been all morning, my daughter and I zipped over to vote. We were lucky, because by the time we finished voting, there were 8 or 9 people in line.

9. I just got home

Did not have to wait - but there was a steady stream of people. All the computers were being used. As an aside, this is the first election in my 20 years of voting when I received a call from the Party urging me to vote and offering me a ride if needed. Seems to be a strong GOTV effort.

10. Huge Turnout in West Laurel (PG County)

I got there around 4:45 this afternoon and there were even more people in line than there were when I voted the morning of the '04 general election.

And they had at least 10 voting machines. Of course Greenbelt always has good turnout. We are kind of manic about it.

12. Just Got Back

90-freakin'-minute wait in Laurel! I got there at 5:45 and got out at 7:15. It's been like that all day. My husband went at 9:30 AM and got out at 11. THey had about 15 DieVotes, two stations for provisionals. Apparently they had a poll monitor, but I couldn't figure out who it was among the staff. Best moment - when three Sikhs walked into the line. No harassment or anything. We're pretty diverse here in Laurel. Was talking to the guy in front of me about the voting machines, and he was skeptical, too.

Saw a couple of people (African-American) with that "Erlich-Steele Democrats" flyer, but our local Dems countered that with a printout of the WaPo story about the Dems challenging it. My only worry is that Steele will siphon off enough of the African-American vote to counteract the rednecks who "ain' gonna vote for no n****r no matter what" up in Western MD.
