Mass. residents sue over smelly landfill

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) Some neighbors of a Northampton landfill have sued to force the city to address what they say are offensive odors and excessive noise from the facility.

Boston attorney Peter Koff filed the suit Wednesday in Hampshire Superior Court on behalf of Michael and Lillian Fedora, and Linda Hiesiger and Ellen Tobiassen. The suit was filed just a week after Koff asked the state land court to overturn the Zoning Board of Appeal's ruling that the Glendale Road landfill does not violate city zoning.

The plaintiffs claim in the suit that landfill operations unreasonably interfere with the normal use of their properties. They are also seek monetary damages.
