LYNN - With Election Day a week away, William Hudak has filed a Superior Court suit claiming U.S. Rep. John Tierney's reelection campaign made "false and defamatory" statements in political advertisements about the Boxford Republican's issues positions.
Hudak, a Republican running for the 6th District seat, will ask a Lawrence Superior Court judge Wednesday afternoon to order the Tierney campaign to suspend ads that include the statements or, in Hudak attorney Richard Wise's words, "clip them out."
Tierney spokeswoman Kathryn Prael called Hudak's suit "action without merit or legal precedence."
"It is an attempt to intimidate speech in the context of a political campaign and we will respond appropriately in court," Prael said.
