Chambers enters sheriff’s race as write-in candidate
Rockland —
With Democrat Rick Pond pulling out of the Plymouth County Sheriff’s race last month, it looked as though Republican Incumbent Joseph McDonald Jr. would run unopposed for the post on Nov. 2. But that is not the case, as Democrat Thomas E. Chambers of Hanson is trying to give voters a choice by running as a write-in candidate.
“It’s time for some changes down there,” Chambers said regarding the Plymouth County Correctional Facility located in Plymouth. “And I plan on making changes for the better.”
He said under the current administration at the jail, “there have been two suicides in the last fiscal year. Those were the first ones there in 25 years or so. The primary job of the sheriff is the care of these inmates. They are people too.”

He added if elected as sheriff, he would look into starting drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs for inmates, as he noted there is currently a lack of such programs at the jail.
