I spoke to Mark Brewer today about the DNC ruling on the early primaries |
|
Today was a beautiful day for a picnic -- especially after all of the horrible weather we've had oer the past week. There was a great turnout at the 9th district picnic, including Lt. Gov. John Cherry and Mark Brewer.
I was curious about Mark's take on the DNC ruling yesterday that would withhold delegates from states having earlier primaries than those allowed by the rules, so I asked him how the ruling would affect us if we decided to go to January 15.
Mark's take is that the DNC will never follow through and withhold delegates for important states like Michigan and Florida -- in the end he thinks the delegates would get seated.
That being said, if they actually did follow through all would not be lost. Mark said that once we get to the convention, the nominee takes control and the nominee's committee basically takes over and could rescind the DNC's rules and ruling and seat the delegates.
This story has a long way to go before we know how it's going to turn out.

Michigan applied to the DNC to have its caucus moved up, but the DNC voted to move up Nevada and South Carolina. Isn't it sour grapes by Michigan and Florida to try to ignore the process now? It isn't a few people in Washington who made the decision, it was the representatives of 50 states.

Sorry for the paraphrase, but I just couldn't resist.
Hey Ms. Sharan, it was a "Beautiful Day" today. I enjoyed my role alot, and it was good to see you again.
Interesting how Nancy and I both had a physically trying week. I worry about that girl, but I have more faith in her than anyone will ever know. And somethng tells me she feels the same about me.

It was nice seeing you again, too. You played some great tunes -- especially the one you dedicated to Nancy.

For those not familiar with what we are talking about, I acted as sound tech/DJ at a congressional district fundraiser. When Nancy Skinner arrived at the softball game portion of the event, I could not resist playing "Not Ready To Make Nice" by the Dixie Chicks.

There is no need for delegates to be seated.

6. That's why I couldn't quite understand what Mark meant |
|
but that's what he said.
I assume he meant that the presumptive nominee going into the convention, not the nominee after all of the voting.
