Congressman Lantos has served as a Member of the United States Congress since January 3, 1981. He is currently serving his 14th term in the House of Representatives. He is the only Holocaust survivor ever to serve in the U.S. Congress. As a Member of the House of Representatives, Tom Lantos has a strong record on environmental protection, has been a consistent supporter of public education, and is a leader in Congressional oversight over Federal government programs. As Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Lantos has played a leading role in U.S. international relations for more than two decades. In 1983, he was the founder of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus and continues to serve as its Co-Chairman.
