I was expecting him to speak from the pulpit or something, pull a Swagart. But it looked like some back room, so I don't get why it had to be done there. Just for emotional appeal? In any case it was tactless. But, that isn't exactly surprising. Neither, if I may digress, was the RW Detroit News' reaction this morning, painting it in the best light imaginable and editoralising that it was a "good first step." My arse!

He seems to think he entitled to use the finances of Detroit as his pocket money. This has been going on since he took office and people just keep re-electing him. So in a way they deserve him.

Kilpatrick won reelection because:
1) he convinced a lot of people (including deep-pocketed board members of Detroit Renaissance) that he had changed and
2) because Freeman Hendrix ran a bad campaign and never "made the sale" to the voters or to the business community.
