Anybody know of a good, close, safe, bar next to the Ren-Cen |
|
that allows smoking? I have to go to a conference tomorrow and just found out the Ren-Cen is non-smoking. Believe me I don't like smoking around non-smokers, however after 8 hours of training sessions I know I'm going to need one. If anyone knows of a good place that I can walk to please post.....soon.
Thanks

1. Tom's Oyster Bar across the street |
|
Of course I knew it better back in the day as Galligan's but whatever. Still a fun place and great location when you're staying at the RenCen. It's right across the street.

4. I always wanted to check it out when... |
|
it was Galligan's. The place looked like it was jumpin'. It seemed packed every time I drove by it (which truthfully wasn't THAT often, but still).

5. I spent some of my mis-spent youth there |

From what I recall, it was great fun! ;-)
You haven't lived until you've been in downtown Detroit when the Tigers win the world series, at home. :toast:

6. Galligan's in the 80s was a meat market |
|
For professionals who worked downtown. I remember going there a couple of times with my coworkers after work. It was crowded and not really my thing.
There are some bars/restaurants in Greektown, and you can smoke in the casino in Greektown.

It will be quite a drive starting at 5:00 pm from St. Joe, Michigan and going across the state. I may have to wait until the morning and miss the first evenings meetings.

7. I think this city is really beautiful. |
|
The buildings are great and the downtown is really something special. Just one question.....where are all the people?????
Although I am of course a Michigander, I live 88 miles from Chicago. So, when I want a big city fix I go to Chicago. I have probably been in downtown Detroit twice in my life. This is a pretty city, nice art and architecture, centrally located and connected by an excellant "people mover" (like an L train) and it has no traffic to speak of, and no people walking around.
I have decided that my husband and I are coming here for our occasional weekend. Time for all people from Michigan to visit this Jewel again. I'm on a campaign to BRING BACK DETROIT!!!!!

8. Come back on Labor Day weekend for the jazz festival |
|
It's big, it's loaded with incredible music, and it's FREE. You'll see people then!
