Heritage Newspapers"Councilman Doug Thomas brought the matter to my attention after he noticed the report appeared to be missing key information about the incident," O'Reilly said.
According to the report, a man was assaulted by at least three individuals at the bar after he asked one of the suspects to "show some respect" to his female cousin as she walked by. One of the suspects then hit the man in the face, and he was struck several more times as he was held up against the pool table.
The report fails to indicate that there were off-duty Dearborn officers present when the incident occurred — but O'Reilly said during a previous interview with the Press & Guide that several high-ranking members of the department were at the bar celebrating the retirement of a fellow officer.
In a whistle-blower complaint filed last month, Dearborn Police Officer Christopher Truel claims he was ordered not to investigate the incident by former Police Chief Michael Celeski and subjected to acts of retaliation by his fellow officers.
