Michigan was the terminus of the Underground Railroad |
|
And countless Michiganders risked their own lives to help escaped slaves get to Canada while the Fugitive Slave Laws were in place. I wonder what would've happened if they'd just said "Not our problem, deal with it yourselves?"
I thought we were one nation, not a bunch of independent country states. I hate how the rest of this country and people on this board are so anti-Michigan, anti-domestic auto industry, anti-union, and don't care about the millions who will lose their jobs if the auto company loans don't come through.

sometimes the remarks do cut to the quick. It bothers me when remarks are made about some of the Southern states too. We here in Michigan can't be to worthless to the rest of the country. Our Great Lakes are of interest to many other states. Now that scares the crap out of me.
We are retired and awful worried about all those jobs on the line,so many people will suffer.
Looks like we are in for a rough ride with this weather. Midland county is getting hit pretty hard.
Perhaps it isn't that they don't care about Michigan. Maybe they are just scared because all this can happen to them at any given moment. So they let off steam and we are just a safe target. At least that is is what I try to tell myself. This is a time we need to all pull together. the every man for himself thinking. will not work this time.

2. I agree and it bothers me, too that these anti-unionist don't |

see the light. They forget the reason people migrated to the industrial north from the south. In search of a more prosperous existence, and they found it b/c of the unions. The unions made the middle class. There is no way in hell I would have worked in the south for the money they make. It's pathetic.

the only reason Toyota, et al. pay $14-20/hour wages in the south is because of the standard set by unions in the north.
