What is the deal with the cost of automobile insurance in Detroit? |
|
damn, I cannot imagine having to fork over insurance that included comprehensive coverage. I have not owned a car in over 2 years and hence have not had insurance for over 30 days, so I expect my premiums to be 'somewhat' higher than the average drive, but the CHEAPEST yet is well over $700 for 6 months!!!! With no traffic tickets, a woman over 50 and no accidents for over 5 years, actually since I was about 25.
This is MOTOR CITY and the insurance is unaffordable!!! What do people do here? They need to do away with this crap 'no fault' crap..did I forget to call 'no fault' crap?

1. Theft rates and your zip code, it's illegal but the Insurance company uses this formula. |

2. Something else I heard that the bastids do. |
|
I heard from a woman that used to work for my State Farm agent (someone I trust a lot) that insurers are also using accident and vehicle damage histories, even if said damage was not your fault. Based on the fact that no-fault and years of Gooper control in this state have allowed these fockers to get away with murder, I believe it. She warned me of this when I admitted I was shopping for lower rates because of the now infamous wrong-way frat boy incident I have talked about ad nauseum.
Is this a ploy to keep me with State Farm, or can someone dig up some real dirt on it? I really, really hate insurance companies of all types. The trick with insurance is always to find a good agent, as the companies they work for generally have a license to steal your money.

3. I think it's a ploy so you don't change. It costs you nothing to get quotes, go get three or four |
|
Quotes and throw the cheap ones in State Farms face and see if they can match it, and if not say adios.

4. If you haven't already, shop around |
|
I have had state farm for awhile and I have paid about $220 to $320 per car per 6 months. Every time I shop around, I am surprised by how expensive the quotes are.

5. Try getting replacement value insurance for your home! |
|
Before we moved to the suburbs (13 years ago), we could only get pool insurance for our HOME and contents.
We couldn't even PAY EXTRA for it.
It's called red-lining. It's supposed to be illegal, but they do it anyway.
