Who's up for a SE Michigan meetup? |
|
We could hold it at a park on a Sat. or Sunday afternoon, in late July or early August. Maybe in Livonia or Plymouth or somewhere around there so it would be fairly central for people coming from Ann Arbor and environs.

I'd be coming from Ann Arbor so Plymouth or Livonia works great. But, I am out of town July 26-30 and August 11-16.....

13. I'll be gone from July 21-31. I will have my August dates firmed up |
|
after Friday of this week. I can post when I know for certain.
If you decide on Livonia or Farmington area, I can help scout around if you like.

Let's see what kind of response we get. I like TahitiNut's idea about the large park in Royal Oak on 13 Mile, but it depends how people coming from Ann Arbor, etc. feel about coming a little farther. If we wind up in Livonia, I could use help scouting.

Is it in Royal Oak? That would work great for me, but for people coming from Ann Arbor, etc., we might be better off further west.

While it *looks* like a golf course, it's frisbee golf. DUers who haven't tried it could try something new - a disc can be bought for about $10-15 or less (at Play It Again Sports and other places). Good low-impact exercise.
Alternatively, there's Starr-Jaycee Park on 13 Mile Road between Crooks and Main. It's also got frisbee/disc golf and picnic pavilions and restrooms and fountains and a baseball diamond and, on the first weekend of the month, a miniature railroad where hobbyists run their trains (large enough for kids to ride on). The frisbee golf isn't as good but the other facilities are better.
I only suggest these because I've usually found that some casual, funky activity (like throwing frisbees) is a good ice-breaker.

14. I know the Starr-Jaycee Park. |
|
As I said, that would be a fabulous location for me. If people coming from Ann Arbor and other points west wouldn't mind coming a bit farther (really only about 15 minutes more than Livonia), I think that would be a great spot.

21. You don't have to convince me how great Ann Arbor is, |
|
but I think we need somewhere a little more central. That's why I suggested Plymouth or Livonia -- it wouldn't be too bad for you guys, nor too far for people coming from this side of town and points east.
So far, we haven't gotten a great response on this thread, so spread the word. Sounds like the first weekend in August looks pretty good.

There is a great little park at the corner of Six Mile and Northville Road in Northville--just a short mile or two from Livonia proper.
