Avoid the Starlite diner in Flint |
|
I was a fairly regular customer there until tonight when we were basically told to leave because of our homosexuality. Myself and friends stayed for about 30 minutes after the meal to shoot the crap and it was around 4am(24hr place), when we were in there. When we were told to leave, one of the kitchen staff shouted "this isn't the gay bar". Obviously a homophobic staff. If there are other Flint residents on these boards PLEASE avoid the Starlite. There are plenty of other 24hr options avalible including TomZ's, Apollo's and Archie's in Davison who serve much better food in a better atmosphere.

1. Flint is somewhere I drive through, not somewhere I stop |
|
If I do eat there, it'll probably be a greasy Halo Burger. Usually, I'm going through Flint on my way to Traverse City, so I don't stop until West Branch or so.

4. Oh absoutley (and update) |
|
Luckily there's plenty of other places around Flint to try good coneys--that are just as cheap or not cheaper than Starlite. I sugest TomZ's in downtown Flint, and a few other places.
I did contact management the following day and they apologized for the actions, however they said that it would be hard to make any displinary actions on the staff for whatever BS reason they gave. There are plenty of 24 hour joints in Flint that I will be patronizing, such as Archie's in Davison, which has a much better amibiance and wait staff that is actually personable and classy. Also the Apollo.

5. Are they better than Detroit coneys? I'm not a big fan of the local ones |
|
I'm partial to Yesterdog in Grand Rapids. If Flint coneys are like those, I'm there. I like Lafayette in Detroit well enough, or Genies Weenies in Hamtramck, but they put some spice in the chili in Detroit that makes them taste funny to me. Plus, they charge extra to put cheese on them, which I think is ridiculous.
Yesterdogs are the best I've ever had, but I'll have to try a Flint one. Usually, if I stop in Flint, it's on my way home. I'm almost home, I'm getting sleepy from driving, and I'm getting hungry.

3. Call the manager NOW. This behavior from kitchen staff is |
|
completely unacceptable, and if the manager doesn't give you an appropriate apology, call the owner. With so many people in Flint hunting for jobs, I am confident the management can easily find someone who cares about the color of your money, instead of something so trivial as your social companions.
My only other suggestion is to wait until after the lunch rush, but seriously CALL AND COMPLAIN!!! And afterwords, tell us what was said, and if it wasn't "nice," I'll be happy to join in on "unhappy customer phone call patrol."
