My friend's daughter and grandchildren are leaving to follow their breadwinner to a job he found at a job fair, repairing big rigs in some little town in Wyoming.

2. My sister who had been off for over a year.... |
|
just got a job working for a contract house. Believe it or not, she's now working for GM. It's a shame because I'm sure this is how the auto companies are replacing their white collar workers. Hourly wages are good, but she has to pay for her own health care. Me, I've been off for 3 years now, still not ready to go back to work. My husband passed and my company was making cutbacks, so I told them to let me go. I'm finishing raising our son and going to college. Hopefully when I have to go back to work in two years, the economy will be better and I'll be able to find something, otherwise we'll be screwed.

5. 30,000 foreclosures in Metro Detroit as of September 1st. |
|
Detroit News had an article at the first of the month. The article blamed adjustable rate mortgages.

6. In reality, it's even higher than that. I go by my work load. |

I'm an appraiser (real estate). 45% or 4-5 out of 10 orders are foreclosures. It's been that way since July and it makes me sick because these are not the big houses or the people who greedily bought more than they could afford. These are little 900 square foot, $90,000 houses...where the breadwinner lost their job in a Mom and Pop shop. :(
