- DeVos says he has released all his 'holdings' but no tax documents. Did not release info. about his $200million investment/ 12 million shares in a nursing home chain possibly because of sexual /physical abuse found in the homes.
- DeVos trying to send the message that Granholm is for abortion by refusing to sign onto restrictions for partial birth abortion (bill had no exceptions for incest/rape)
- Stem cell/ DeVos trying to make himself look for it but saying he has " very great concerns..."
- Betsey "I take her advice very, very much"
Can someone please shoot Skubik?

That was a thrashing. Woo hoo! Good god. My personal political bellwether, my dad, called me and said about Devos: "man does he ever look like a weird nervous dude."
And yes, Skubick (Ron Burgundy) can be annoying, but he sure setup the Governor with that question about her opponent hiding something. Jesus, did he tee that one up for her or what?
That sure was fun to watch. God, I hope undecided people saw that.
As bad as that was, the hard core Republicans are still unreachable, they're the same idiots who watched (or failed to watch) Schwartz annihilate Posthumus in the primary debate four years ago and voted for that Dick.
But I don't see how any undecided who watched that could vote for that guy.

That was priceless! She also really went after him on that nursing home chain, which makes me think there's veracity filled info coming out about that mess very soon. And that nonsense they brought up about Selipak was just so lame. Sorry, but in the scheme of things, that is just minor stuff compared to the real challenges in this state.
Notice what the Guv said in her wrap-up about doing more debates and concentrating on economic plans. She knows he's got all smoke and mirrors, and she wants to zero in on it.
Go Jen, Go Jen. You rule!
And by the way, my WW2 vet dad just said that DeVos looks too shify-eyed. And check this: Dad is an Ike guy who switched to being a Democrat about 6 years ago. Yet, he loved FDR too.

Anyone with any sense likes those who maintain some shred of integrity. DeVos? No integrity, all business, all the time, citizens be damned...
Yeah, she looks good and speaks like a gov. should. But it ain't over yet and people are so tired in Michigan....

25. DeVoid was smirking, ducking questions... |
|
and tilting his head. Clearly he's hiding a lot of crap. Classic liar posture and behaviors. He couldn't answer questions directly and just rambled generalities. Granholm will be re-elected.

Devos look like he didn't shave or was it just my television? He had that "Nixon vs Kennedy" look going on. He also failed to answer a single damned question without spinning the hell out of it. How about his answer about abortion? Embryonic Stem-Cell research? The role of his wife in his life? How in God's name could they put him up against someone like Jennifer Granholm?????

15. It was like DeVos doesn't know how to give short answers |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 10:15 PM by islander
Seriously, Skubick gave him some easy questions (He practically begged Devos to call Granholm a liar!) and DeVos fumbled them all by refusing to just say "Yes" or "No". His debate coaches must have been tearing their hair out while watching that. He's the challenger, but he's the one who ended up sounding like a hack politician dodging a question.
I wouldn't quite call it a blowout (I think DeVos got in a couple of small jabs that could register with undecideds, like his accusation about the Japan trips), but Granholm definitely won this one.

6. Interesting that the Fox poll has pre-checked the mark for DeVos. |
|
It seems that most online polls have NO choice pre-marked before the respondent designates his/her response.

18. Granholm was Fabulous--Really Knowledgeable, Clear, Ethical |
|
Gov. Granholm was a very impressive debater; after all , she was a great Attorney General etc., before, so she is used to making persuasive arguments, etc. Very impressive; smart, cool, tough and yet agreeable, funny, etc. I have been reading that these debates should be easy and not to worry--she is a great debater and DeVos is a stupid creep--but now that it has happened and she sailed right through it, I hope people listened, and will be re-educated as to who the real Governor is. DeVos was, thank God, Nixon-creepy, and it came across. Nice parts about not revealing the tax returns, the nursing home DeVos was connected with, that had the abuse scandals, uncorrected, and the question about how the loss of billions of dollars will be made up after the killing of the (combined) single business tax. She is Governor Sweetiepie! Also, why is Tim Suckdick on Michigan PBS anyway? I almost fell out of my chair when the very FIRST question was Suckdick lobbing it to DeVos about whether or not Granholm's ads were lies. What the hell?...

I totally agree with you, she rocked.
She was intelligent, informed, she made me proud.
Part of me wants to send a clip of this to family in other states to show them what a real governor looks like.
Thank you Jennifer!

23. I thought Granholm had him early on in the debate/first question |
|
When she caught him in the lie about whether or not she met with Honda or not.
But the missing nursing home investment-there's probably something more to that, because Channel 4 in Detroit has started investigating the whole thing. The look on his face when she brought it up gave it all away-he knew he was caught.

26. Detroit Free Press Op-Ed |
|
The Detroit Free Press has a http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061003/OPINION01/610030467/1068/OPINION">great op-ed that echoes much of what we've been saying. I've been forwarding it along to whoever I can. Here's to the rest of the debates goings as well as this first one did. Go Granholm!

If Gov. Granholm was longwinded, as stated in the article, at least she was longwinded talking about real, concrete solutions. DeVos could put a hibernating bear to sleep with his longwindedness, but he used it as a way to circumvent giving answers. However, I don't think I can ever use the "d" word ("disappointing") again!
