answer about DeVos:
How can a guy spend 30 million dollars (projected NPR) on a campaign and look so absolutely lousy in two measly debates?
30 MILLION DOLLARS!!! That's 15 MILLION DOLLARS APIECE FOR TWO 30 MINUTE DEBATES!!! A TOTAL OF ONE HOUR OF LOOKING LIKE A STUTTERING NUTCASE FOR 30 MIllion DOLLARS
What is wrong with this freakin' idiot I mean, I love Michigan but come on...this guy has one stupid agenda to do that.

"Republicans for Granholm" website after the debate. He says DeVoid is a loser as well. Her hubby is an apologetic Raisinbrain voter nowadays.

...and they just naturally look bad. I wish someone would bring up the topic in the debates of how MI sends $1 of federal tax to DC and only gets 86c back. I really wish I could stop paying my federal taxes and send them to Lansing instead. Stop red state welfare NOW!!!

4. Walking, talking proof that a campaign is only as good as the candidate |

If he were at all likeable or charismatic he would probably be even or ahead. But this time we clearly win the "who would you rather have a beer with" voter.
He has all the money in the world. And strategically seems to have run a good campaign. There's only one problem: the candidate is just way too odd.

It does give me a certain amount of faith in the system that despite DeVos' ability to spend what amounts to an infinite amount of money on the race, he is and has been consistently behind Granholm in the polls. I feel like he thought he'd be able to just show up, spend his money, win the election, and figure out the details later. It's good to see that voters recognize his lack of direction, not to mention integrity, accountability, compassion, etc...

If he wasn't so creepy on the surface, he'd probably be leading. Bush has that everyman quality. Even though it is bogus, Bush was able to play the role and make a more positive first impression personality-wise. I actually suspect that Devos is probably more qualified than Bush to hold executive office and is quite possibly just a more decent human being than Bush although I disagree with him on almost everything politically. His biggest political liability isn't his extremism (which it would be if the system truly worked). His biggest political liability is that he is bad on TV.

The system isn't quite perfect, and DeVos' personality creepiness shouldn't shouldn't be on equal footing with his politics complete lack of a plan for the state. That said, it doesn't really matter to me whether he loses on political or personal grounds.

over those abortion comments, if they don't cost him a couple of pts in the next poll, then I don't know politics. I mean he threw the right wing nut jobs under the bus into the train and then backed over them with a 4x4

9. I thought maybe I wasn't hearing right, but he really did say it |

I can't believe that his buddies at Right To Life of Michigan are very thrilled with what he said, unless he's lying to us to get more pro-choice votes?
After all, this is a guy who doesn't have any ethical debates over whether he should do business in China, a country that uses slave labor and imprisons Dick's fellow evangelical christians for their beliefs. Right wing christians are not rejecting him for that.
