Sunday, July 26, Noon to 5:00 p.m. Minnehaha Park, Wabun Picnic Area (#4), 4825 Minnehaha Avenue South, Minneapolis. The Minneapolis truck drivers’ strike is one of the most important strikes in labor history. On July 20, 1934, police opened fire, shooting 60 strikers in the back and killing two of them. In August, the strike was won by Teamsters local 574, a huge victory, spurring labor organizing throughout the region. Speakers/Historical Displays/Food/Children’s Games. My grandparents lived in IA. they talked of the hard times there, and lose of farms, moving around trying to survive.
But do any of you have stories from the elders of this strike ?
How sick that the police shot the strikers in the back.
If anyone had actually throw a molotov cocktail during the RNC I'm sure the law-enforcement would have shot with real bullets at the crowds.
