Vikings Political contributions
Rachel Maddow brought up NFL donations to political campaigns.

http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2009/09/politicians-score-significant.html

Total $131,175
Democrats $14,600 11%
Republicans $116,575 89%

Another reason the DFL needs to keep control of the legislature and get the governor's office. It might make it harder for the Vikings to get a DFL controlled legislature to build them that stadium they want.

1. Last night I asked foreclose fight Rosemary Williams to see if Viking pLayer could help
I wonder if any of the players donate for social justice causes???

I assume this Viking money is from owners? or could it include the players?

3. The Twins did just fine with a DFL-controlled legilature.
Edited on Fri Sep-18-09 11:37 PM by NoUsername
They got everything they wanted -- a new stadium at the cost of the taxpayers. Proving once again that the DFL can be bought out just as easily as the Republicans can. No surprise there.

The only reason the Vikes are floundering in their request to suck the taxpayers dry of every last dime is due to the fact that the economy is in the tank. Give it a year or two and they will have a new stadium at taxpayer expense. It's been that way since the Reagan era. I don't expect it to change until a.) people wake the fuck up or b.) an actual second party arises and becomes a threat to the bogus "two party system" currently in power.

Are you in favor of the Twins having a new stadium? Great! Then pay for it out of your own damn pocket! Same thing with the Vikes. If you support them, prove it! Cough up your money and give it over to the team owners and leave everyone else out of it. Chhhrriisst, this is so damn simple.

4. The Vikings don't deserve a new stadium.
They can't hire a winning coach or sell out a season, why do they deserve a new stadium?

5. I think you have the Vikings confused with Detroit
Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 03:54 PM by Generic Brad
I can't remember the last time a game was blacked out. It's been at least a decade or more. We sell out continuously.

And we don't hire winning coaches-eh? I can name two former Vikings assistants that have been head coaches in winning Superbowl runs within the past ten years (Tomlin and Billick). Last year our current coach not only delivered a winning season, but we won the division. I think if you look at the history of the franchise you will see we have more wins than losses along with an incredible number of play off appearances.

I don't think they should get a new stadium either but for different reasons. They will soon be the sole occupants of the Metrodome and they can modify it to suit their needs in any way they like. If the Wilff family want to spend their own dough to make a new stadium happen, I say "have at it". Just don't expect it on the taxpayer's dime.

No more welfare for the rich!

10. True. They have now spent some money on real players as well as have built up
a decent Team. I actually think that the Vikings should have gotten the Stadium deal before the Twins. The owners/investors are filthy rich, far more than Zig and his brother, yet they have taken the people to the cleaners for taxes. I give Zig a lot of credit to come here and participate in the community. I think he actually loves Football and is just hoping that he can get the Vikes to win a Super-bowl. I am not stupid to think that he would not sell the team though if the City doesn't at least make an honest attempt to resolve the crappy Dome issue.
I hate hate hate hate the Dome. My ears hurt every time I had been in there and the seating makes me downright nauseous. The sound carries for blocks also. I DO think it is a great site for another facility. I don't know what the structural costs to "modify" it would be but I would love to go to a game in a decent facility. I find baseball boring with all the whining and foreign players and huge pay scale these guys get. No offense to baseball fans out there, especially since my grandfather played on a Team and my dad coached baseball and taught me how to play. I just love Football! Brett too.

Technically true. But more than once over the past few years corporate sponsors have stepped up to buy large blocks of tickets to avoid home games being blacked out (WCCO did this at least twice in the 2007 season to keep from losing ad revenue).

The playoff game last year barely missed being blacked out, after the league extended the blackout deadline twice (the league has done the same for other teams as well, including the Vikings during the regular season).

I don't doubt the interest is there, but going to a game is very pricey even in the best of economies.

6. Vikings would have just as much trouble with a GOP legislature
Since right now the party has refound their long lost fiscal conservatism and are currently overshooting a realistic level the other way.

That means they will be just as resistant to a Vikings stadium if it needs one cent of taxes raised.

11. Also a reason to keep Tom Bakk out of the governor's office
Bakk is one of the legislature's biggest whores for public subsidies for pro sports stadium boondoggles, power plants, megamalls and anything else that promises to provide a few union jobs. Get Bakk in the governor's office and you can be sure he'll be shilling for the Vikings.
