Found this in my email today

Stop by the DFL Senior Caucus Autumn Gala Sunday, Nov 15, 1:30 -4:30pm at the Eagles Club, 2507 East 25th Street, Minneapolis, 55406.
- Rebecca Otto will speak on THE CHALLENGES FACING A DFL CANDIDATE RUNNING IN A DISTRICT WHERE THE SOIL'S SO RED THAT THE BEETS LOOK PINK.
- Gubernatorial Candidates will opine.
- Music by the Joe Smith's Goodbye Norm Coleman Jazz Trio.

The formal program will begin at or about 2:30 pm and at its conclusion, there will be informal breakout sessions in the front of the hall where you can meet and talk with candidates seeking DFL endorsements.

Our special guests included Dan Powers who is running Congress in CD-2 and Maureen Hackett and Jim Meffert who are running for Congress in CD-3.

The Gala will provide to meet the newly elected Chair of the Caucus, Don Bye. (The event will also plenty of opportunity for DFler's to spend an afternoon meeting new friends, renewing old acquaintances and talking to candidates and representatives.) For more information, give me a call.

This is the first I've heard that anyone had definetly decided to run in the 3rd CD. I've never heard of either one of them, does anyone here know anything about either one of them?

I do know that Dan Powers is good guy and an advocate of single payer; I'd love to see him beat Kline and it isn't a case of voting for the lesser of 2 evils with him.

2. Here's some brief snippets about CD3 challengers to Paulsen
I found the article I remembered seeing - I'm not familiar with either of them. I really want a strong challenger to dethrone Paulsen before he turns into a long-termer like Ramstad.

www.mnprogressiveproject.com/diary/4228/dfl-to-get-a-second-candidate-in-cd3

Paulsen needs to go (yeah, I know, join the crowd, starting with Bachmann, continuing with Kline, throw in Peterson after...).
But he's raised almost $1 million this year...just read that the other day...here it is, from MN Independent:
<<U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen has raised nearly $1 million so far this year. The freshman Republican took in $318,000 in the third quarter of 2009 and had $725,000 in the bank, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission.>>

And here's another on these 2 challengers (Bonoff still hasn't decided - am not thrilled with her either):

I checked into Powers after you mentioned him months ago -- he looks good to me!

3. Paulsen is as extreme as Bachmann
but he's just sane enough to keep his mouth shut.

Several months ago I heard him say he wants his daughters to "have the same opportunies" he did. So I shot him an email asking if that were true, why did he vote against the Lily Ledbetter Equal Pay Act. I never got an answer to that.

Thanks for the info on the other two - and I agree with you Bonoff is a real turn off. She's a total Blue Dog. During last year's legislative session she did opine that the way to solve the state's deficit would be to extend the sales tax to clothes. She thought an income tax raise would be too hard on businesses. I can't imagine any Democrat deciding that the way to balance the budget would be to raise one of the most regressive taxes rather than a progressive one. (In fairness, she did say low income people could qualify for a tax credit for the extra sales tax they wind up paying - no details on how that would have been calculated :banghead:)
