EMERGENCY UNPERMITTED MARCH IN RESPONSE TO SURGE IN AFGHANISTAN
President Obama will address the nation on the evening of Tuesday, December 1st to announce a military surge in Afghanistan of between 30-40,000 troops.
We will be marching THE FOLLOWING DAY, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2nd, leaving at 5:30PM from the SW Corner of Loring Park in Minneapolis.
Wear warm clothes, and be ready to stop business as usual against this war of aggression.
Remember Holidazzle Parade is also happening downtown.

A co-worker said it was everyday. In some ways that is good, in some ways not.

4. Who's sponsoring this and how are they publicizing it? |
|
Because at such short notice, you're going to have to use guerrilla marketing.
Sentiment against sending more troops is strong (just look at the online responses to Bob Herbert's column in today's 12/1 edition of the NY Times). If you publicize this thing through all possible channels (contacts in organizations), there will be a big turnout. Otherwise just the usual 500 or so.
Once I get the details, I can put it on my Facebook page and urge others to do so.

8. I intended to go, and then I started feeling ill around 2:00 this afternoon |
|
Decided it was best not to march around in the cold.

7. Story on the march here |
|
http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=829757&catid=391Minneapolis police, including the mounted patrol, arrested 11 war protesters Wednesday night. The 11 protesters were part of a much larger group that marched on Hennepin Avenue through downtown Minneapolis in the middle of rush hour traffic earlier that evening.
The protesters said the march was meant to disrupt traffic flow in order to publically demonstrate their opposition to the increase of troops in Afghanistan.
The march was called for by Direct Action to Stop War and Occupation (DASWO), a local anti-war organization.
The protesters were arrested for unlawful assembly.

Oh my gosh, Other than RNC I have never, every seen so much media or police for a march or demonstration. I think there was about 150-200 people at the most. I'm not good at guessing these things.
I got there about 4:45..and there were 3 media vans.. I was early.. it wasn't to start till 5:30.. and so I got a cocoa and walked back about 5:15.. and there was a helicopter over head and there was two small crowds with local news camera's interviewing someone in the crowd and then another local news camera filming the whole group. there were many independent media cameras and personal cameras so I expect a lot of pictures later.
Anyhow. It was a bit sickening the waste of tax dollars on the amount of police/horse force.
WE wound around downtown for what seemed like forever but it felt great. well.. for the soul it felt great.. right now my legs hurt and shoulders really hurt. I"m too old to march while hold a sign over my head. wish I a jacuzzi to melt into.
It was a great action over all, and I hope someone finds out or reports how much all the policing cost the city.
