Janitors Protest Wells Fargo, Deluge Bankers with Monopoly Money and Toy Houses

http://twincities.indymedia.org/

SEIU Local 26 janitors converged on Downtown Minneapolis today with a pair of coordinated actions designed to disrupt the business community, particularly megabank and cleaning client Wells Fargo. While about 40 members of the bargaining unit ran a decoy action, marching and chanting in the Skyways from US Bank Corps Plaza, the main unit descended on the Wells Fargo downtown branch.

Workers and organizers poured into the bank lobby and set up a mock Monopoly Board. They also dumped out over ten thousand green plastic Monopoly house game pieces to represent over 84,000 foreclosures in Minnesota. Activists on the Skyway level dumped bags of Monopoly money over the railing as David Gilbert-Patterson, an intern with Take Action, strutted around the bank dressed as Rich Uncle Pennybags in a top hat, tuxedo and cane.

** Now would be a good time to move your money out of Wells Fargo Bank ***

1. Excellent--the more visibility the better
Even if the media don't cover the protest, actual people will see it in a setting like that.

2. Creative demonstration!
Wow! That was really a creative and thoughtful demonstration! In this day and age of main stream media-controlled manipulation, American Idol and Glen Beck-Rush Limbaugh-FOX News, it takes a lot of creativity and thought to get an important message out like this one. But the message in detecting fraud and corruption is always "follow the money". "Monopoly" money is a fantastic metaphor for the corrupting monopolies at work in the country.

3. Wow - great demonstration!!
Creative, fun - right on target!! After a bailout and while thousands are being foreclosed, these multi-million dollar salaries are particularly obscene!

6. Excellent demonstration.
So many people thrown out of their homes by Wells Fargo as they refused to even negotiate with them.

Someone should put a foreclosure notice in the hands of the driver of that now infamous stagecoach.

I hope more people take their money out of that bank and support community bands and credit unions.
