How is Sen Klobuchar and her office responding to those who ask for accountablity re: Torture |
|
Here is one of the activists email after visiting with a staff member.
Hi folks, During my 7/13/10 meeting with Kali Cruz, Deputy State Director in Sen. Klobuchar's office, she said we would hear back within a month regarding the issues we raised in the 1/5/10 meeting. I subsequently wrote her that Aug. 1 being the eighty anniversary of the Yoo/Bybee memos, and eight years being the statute of limitations on the Federal Torture Statute, if I heard nothing by July 30, I would return to the Senator's office. Today I returned. I was told neither Joe Campbell nor Ms. Cruz were in yet, so I waited. As Mr. Campbell walked in the door, he shook my hand and told me he'd be with me in a couple minutes. I felt so important that I adjusted the orange ribbon on my tee-shirt. Within minutes, Mr. Campbell invited me into the conference room, where he told me that yesterday they had had extensive discussion on the issues we have raised and they were getting very close to having a response for us. He said they were trying to get it completed by Aug. 1, and we might even hear something from them today, but not to bank on that. He said their discussions included people in the D.C. office as well and specifically mentioned Paige Herwig there, who we had previously been told is the D.C. contact person on issues such as ours. So even though it is unlikely we'll hear by Aug. 1, this was most encouraging. I hope you all feel the same. Joe, if I have mischaracterized anything you said, please let us know. Thanks. Chuck

I will be surprised if Klobuchar comes up with anything that is not totally wishy washy. Klobuchar does not take stands on important issues. Also, she seems to have no concept of what is important. Perhaps you would have better luck talking to her about baggage fees, groundbreaking ceremonies, giving a speech almost anyplace or magazine spreads. Amy finds plenty of time for these things. Amy doesn't even manage to find time for millions of hungry children in the USA or the millions unemployed.
I admire your persistence and am glad you continue to pressure Amy. I don't think it will do much good, however. I just hope we take the endorsement from Amy or primary Amy and get her out of there.
