On Aug. 21, 1965 The Beatles played a concert at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington. A young Bill Carlson was there with his camera and captured some brilliant photos of the boys from Liverpool. Carlson has a new book of his photos from that day called "The Beatles! A One-Night Stand in the Heartland

Can you imagine just dropping a gang of 12 year olds off in front of the concert venue & picking them up later? That's what our parents did.

However, I can't possibly be old enough to have any personal memories of this - I must have just heard about it from people much older than me. :evilgrin:

1. I know my Mom saw the Beatles play in Minnesota as well, probably the same show

I should try finding that book for her for Christmas, I am sure she would love it.

2. It had to be the same show.

The Fab Four were only here once (as a group).

A few years ago when McCartney was in town my mother asked if I wanted to see him. I pointed out that the tickets were over $200 and given that it had only cost me $5.50 (and that was the most expensive seat) to see all 4 Beatles, I didn't think it was such a good deal.

3. The Good Ol' Days

When you could go to a concert at the Guthrie, St. Kate's, for about $6-7.50 a ticket

4. There's a Nero Wolf mystery from the 1940s in which Archie (who does

the footwork for Wolf, who never leaves his house), opens the front door of Wolf's house to find a well-known Broadway actress standing on the front step. He recognizes her immediately, because just recently he paid a scalper $5.50 to see her current show. Yes, that's WITH a decimal point.

I have a hard time thinking of anyone I'd pay $200 a ticket to see.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Shawn Phillips, Jim Croce, Dave Mason, Black Sabbath

Loved hearing music in Guthrie

Most I ever paid was for, the name escapes me, woman really long hair, in Vegas in early 90's in Vegas about $38/ticket
she only played a little and then her sister played, was disappointed

I liked Nero Wolf, have not seen it for a long time
