My First Big Minnesota Hailstorm |
|
So, last night, I was happily snoozing. At 1:45 AM, though, I suddenly woke up to a very loud hammering noise on the roof. It took me about 10 seconds to identify the noise. It was hailing like crazy, and not the usual sound of a hailstorm. Nope, this was like someone beating on the roof with a hundred 5-pound hammers.
So, I jumped out of bed and went into the living room, where I could look out the picture window. The hail was about the size of ping-pong balls. The banging went on only for about 10 minutes, then stopped as suddenly as it had begun.
This morning, I went out to check for damage. There wasn't any, so it was just a lot of noise with no consequences. Cool beans!
BTW, I'm in the northeast corner of Saint Paul. The radio said that there was a severe thunderstorm alert and that it was heading northeast.
Nothing like a little drama in the middle of the night to tell you you're in Minnesota...

That wasn't a 'Big Hail' storm by Minnesota standards...you've got a ways to go :-) I came here from the west coast and thought the same but learned there was average and there was BIG. My favorite MN hail storm was the one where I sat at work on the seven floor and watched below as the baseball size hail plummeted dent after dent into my car parked outside. It was a tad depressing...welcome to MN!

2. Yah, I know. But it was big enough for this transplanted Californian. |
|
:scared: of anything bigger.

3. Don't worry, the ice crystals get smaller in the next couple months |
|
and they tend to stick around, pile up, and hang out for a few months. ;)

was the size of ping pong balls you will have damage to your roof. It will not easily be seen from the ground. You should think about having it inspected by a trained roofing contractor.

5. I've already been up on the roof doing an inspection. No damage. |

There wasn't much of the larger hail, and the whole thing just lasted a few minutes. Thanks!

Haag certified roofing inspector and you have to know what you are looking for to detect hail damage, Unless it makes holes in your shingles at the ridges or valleys. Glad to hear you have no damage.
