flooding report from my aunt in Caledonia |
|
Hi Everyone....thought I would give you an update on MN flooding...you might have heard our government has declared our state as a natural disaster (I have known his leadership has been a disaster for a long time...but that is another topic) at this time...Governor Palenty recognized the flooding this week is very, very serious. Southeast MN is included, and we know this is only the beginning as the next week is likely to be worse as the flood waters from northern MN reaches our area. ---reminder we had terrible floods, erosion, mud slides etc in 2007, 2008, 2009 and spring 2010....now we are having lots of rain the last few days. -----the ground has been over-saturated this summer...we had the most rain between June 1st to the 31st of August 2010-- in history.....we had rain since Aug so the ground can not take more moisture. ---we had seven inches of rain in 24 hrs beginning yesterday.....we are expecting more rain tonight. --as you know Caledonia is definitely not in a flood plane...however, this AM we had a funeral but could not have the burial rite as the ground around the grave was caving in...also they could not pump the water out of the grave fast enough to keep a head of the water...... ---naturally some basements are flooded --the worst part of the flooding is just north of us.....our time will come in the next few days.... ----There has been terrible flooding in the counties around Olmstad Co..that is where Rochester is located...lots of damage ----of course any of us driving we certainly need to watch for mudslides...always a concern in our area any time we get rain these years -----Thanks for your prayers...love....and support...
