Happy anniversary!
No, I didn’t get our wedding anniversary confused with Valentine’s Day. It’s the anniversary of the day we began a very special relationship with hundreds of thousands of supporters like you.
You see, four years ago today, I announced that I was running for the United States Senate. I hoped people would be willing to give their time and energy (and, of course, money) to support me, but I had no idea what a great grassroots movement we’d build together.
It is such a privilege to be able to fight for the people of Minnesota in the Senate. And every day I wake up and go to work, I do so knowing that I didn’t do it alone. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate everything each of you did to help me get here.
Of course, there IS one person who did a little more than anyone else. During the campaign, I used to say, “Franni and I are running for the Senate. If we win, I get to be the Senator.” Well, we won. And what I said proved true -- I get to be the Senator.
But Franni continues to be my partner, my inspiration, my best friend -- and the love of my life since the day I saw her across the room at a freshman mixer almost 42 years ago. And although we’re honored to mark this fourth anniversary with all of you today, we’re always excited to celebrate another Valentine’s Day together.
From both of us to all of you -- thanks for everything. And have a very happy Valentine’s Day.
