Edwin L. Worthington said in an interview with WLBT-TV in Jackson that he would be stepping down. The announcement comes six weeks before the start of hurricane season.

"There are other opportunites that I want to pursue," Worthington said Thursday. "It's been a privilege and honor to serve the people of Mississippi."

Worthington refuted rumors that he was forced to resign, saying the decision was his own because he wants to spend more time with his family.

Robert Latham said he will be resigning. I also read that the maintenance and disposal of Katrina trailers is being turned over to minority contractors in the state. No one in charge after last years fiasco wants to be around. Guess after this year's tornado and hurricane season the state excuse will be " It was not my problem"
