why is Springfield growing fast?

I don't know why people are moving here. I know Nixa and Ozark are growing faster though and are contributing to SGF's growth.

And I should have done it sooner. I was very upset that day and just needed to vent. I don't hate Springfield, I just wish it wasn't so red. I am trying my best to change that and it just gets frustrating some days.

2. It has been growing quickly for the past twenty years

I lived there twenty years ago, and it was really just starting to sprawl, starting to reach out south of Battlefield then. St. Johns, I think, had just gone up on National, south of Battlefield.

I went down there a couple of years ago, and was just blown away. In the ten year time span since last I visited, Springfield had reached Nixa, and beyond. A good part of that had been fueled by the growth of Branson, real estate had become so pricey there that the workforce was forced to settle in south Sprinfield and commute.

If you want to control Springfield growth, you're going to have to act now, for the citizen's right to petition on annexation matters could be taken away. Go to this thread I started on House Bill 447<http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=162x1748>, then contact your reps and mail those LTTEs. If we don't act now, matters of city annexation will be carried out in cozy little backroom deals between the county and city officials, and our right to force a vote on annexation will be taken away.

I've lived here all my life, and I love it. I don't see why Democrats hate living in Republican ruled, Conversative ran cities and states. I like it here. Because I know when 2006 and 2008 I'll have a REAL voice to make in the political process as we work to make Springfield, and Missouri blue. I have no problem at all working in a Red area, or a Red state. Makes the challenge that much better, and that much greater. But thats just me.

The Republicans here will realize sooner or later that the GOP is failing them, and as soon as that happens Missouri will be blue again. Just as it should be!

5. Springfield is a nice town

I've grown up there (now going to school in Kirksville). The people are great--not everyone is a religious zealot, but many believe in the whole hospitality thing. It's a great place to grow up and learn--and the growth, as I see it, is a good thing. Bringing in more people, more diversity, more blue-thinkers--that's what it needs. The time to act on Springfield's future as a Republican stronghold is now, to embrace the growth and guide it towards being a bastion for Democrats (since St. Louis has let us down the last few elections..) Anyone else in this state have this love-hate relationship with the STL?

Actually, Ashcroft was born in Chicago.

Springfield is attractive for several reasons:
1. SMSU (Hopefully MSU if Graham will shut the hell up. As a Democrat in Springfield, he's killing me.), Drury, Evangel, etc - about 50k students amongst all of the universities.
2. The major entry point into Branson and Table Rock.
3. Bass Pro, Kraft, Chase, O'Reilly.
4. A reputation for a low crime rate (though Meth is clearly demonstrating otherwise).

9. What would Brad Pitt do if he had to stay in Springfield all of the

time? Probably eat at; what is the name of that place where they throw the rolls at you? Great food, I have to admit. We used to take my wife's folks down there to Bass Pro and there to eat. They were in heaven.

Have to say the town is in a great location and I think probably other factors than political drive people to move there.

I think it really will be a great town other than Assembly of God Headquarters and a rednick town someday.
