o you think Jane Fonda will ever come back? |
|
The news this morning is just full of the letters the paper received from everywhere - condemning her and praising the man who spit on her.
You would think that after 30 years people could find it in themselves to forgive. It's almost like they blame their whole war experience on her.

1. why isn't it against the law to spit tobacco juice on someone else? |
|
The very fact that there is even one letter approving of the actions of this lowlife criminal spitting on another is disgraceful. What goes on in Misouri anyway? Is it really as 'deliverance' as they say?

is against the law. It's called assault. Same as throwing a pie in people's faces.
When all the praise on the pie-throwers was going on here on DU, I asked the question, "what about when they start doing it to us?" Ya know what, I was told, "why should they do it to us?" Well, now they have.
Nobody that approved of the pie-throwing can possibly object to Jane Fonda getting spit upon. Not without being a hypocrite. fortunately for me, I objected to the pie-throwing and object to the spitting.
It's not easy being right all the time.

7. It was a stupid thing to do. |

Spit is body fluid. He should go to jail. And if he has a communicable disease which can be spread through spit, he should go to prison for quite a few years.

2. My guess is those letters are Astroturf |
|
and copied from some right wing website.
Most people out there consider her irrelevant now. They're too young to have experienced the whole thing or they're too old to give a shit.
She really was a divisive figure 30 years ago, though. A lot of us in the antiwar movement resented her because her grandstanding with the "enemy" did us a lot of damage. We'd been starting to win over Middle America until she did those stunts. She set us back a couple of years with that trip.
However, there are still the passionately stupid who believe all the lies about her. As much as we'd like to rub their long blue noses in snopes.com, they won't change. They'll be mumbling about nonexistant bits of paper handed to the Viet Cong and Clinton's dick into their pureed veg at the old folks' home.

6. There were many anti-Jane letters out there this morning. |
|
The feeling in them was almost as strong as it was 30 year's ago. I was amazed. Then there were a couple of letters supporting her right to say what she wants to say.

4. I know - but it makes us look so bad. |
|
First the Aryan Nation thinks this would be a good place to move to.
And good ole Fred and his goings on in Topeka.
The whole wierd evolution things.
The school book bannings.
Then we have the fight at the airport between the rabbi and the Nazi.
And now Jane Fonda gets spit on at a book signing.
Are we really becoming such a horrible place full of horrible people?

9. Yes, our streets run with brown slime. |

I don't think very many people here really chew tobacco. I don't see it very often. The kids get it from the baseball players - yuk. I hate it. And maybe the rednecks. But we don't see a bunch of stqandout rednecks around, either. Maybe in the smaller towns.

It's interesting the kind of trash I have to pick up from the roadside at my south K.C. home:
beer bottles cigarette butts fast food containers
and number four with a bullet:
tobacco cans
