1. Well, North Carolina has had....
the ministers calling for flushing the Koran and casting out those who voted for Kerry...sounds pretty nutty to me!

2. Long ago and far away...
my extended family once hailed from rural Missouri and others in Kansas....I am so saddened at how the basic good, trusting, (albeit naive) Midwestern values held by the people-- I remember so many years ago-- have been exploited to push such anti-Science, anti-progressive, often biggoted "cultural" values by the RW. Meanwhile these folks get poorer, poorer, poorer--their kids have no choice but to enlist in Bush* illegal wars-- and any social safety net is eroding at light speed.

3. Great analysis, hlthe2b...
my grandparents are from Kansas, and my grandpa, still going strong at 88, is what I call a "Roosevelt Democrat" as he still has a picture of FDR signing the New Deal paperwork hanging in his garage. They moved from Western Kansas to L.A. in 1940, where grandpa found work at McDonnell-Douglas, where he remained for 30 years. I'd like to think that leaving Kansas was the best thing that ever happened to them. Unfortunately, those that remain are losing what little quality of life they had.
