The donations from doctors began rolling in within days after Gov. Matt Blunt signed legislation making it harder for injured patients to sue.
Health-care interests kicked in more than $150,000 to Blunt’s re-election campaign, $1 out of every $6 that the governor took in during the second quarter of the year.
The insurance industry, which was allowed to recommend its own top regulator in Missouri, was another significant source of cash, contributing $30,050. Car and truck dealers, who saw one of their own named to the state highway commission, also weighed in, giving nearly $20,000.

Blunt supported several initiatives that pleased the insurance industry. For example, he named insurance agency owner Dale Finke insurance director, the top regulator charged with protecting consumers from unscrupulous insurance practices. Finke was recommended by a group of insurance executives and campaign donors who screened applicants for the job.
