Good-bye Flea, hello ... Hooters?
Alternative weekly The X has the most thorough article yet on the demise of the much-loved Westport Flea Market in KC.

Good-bye Flea, hello ... Hooters?
KC staple being dumped for cookie cutter spot - and the employees weren't told

Forget what you know about McGonigle's beef, mini-market burgers, tres tacos, shuffleboard and waitresses named LeAnne, Elizabeth, Anna and Becky.

Replace that image with chicken wings, orange shorts and $9 pitchers of beer. . . .

With one swipe of the pen and many months of negotiating, Mel Kleb II has sold what has been a 24-year Westport staple into another corporate hideout.

In his first interview on this subject with any Kansas City press, Kleb confirmed to The X his plans to sell Westport Flea Market to Hooters of America, leaving many hamburger lovers with empty stomachs and several waitresses wondering why they have yet to hear about the decision to sell the joint.

2. This is so sad!
I miss my old Westport!

There's a Starbucks a couple of doors down from the Westport Coffee House (but fortunately Star-Sucks has not run it out of business ... yet).

The old Whistler's Books was ran out of business by the glitzy Barnes & Noble a few blocks south on the Plaza.

I get so sick of how America is becoming "WalMart-ized" by all these corporate weasels!

R.I.P. Westport Flea Market! I'll miss those burgers.

4. I think we are pretty much
in agreement on that point.

We will meet there in August and discuss where else we can go.
