Last Wednesday, Steelville played host to a forum for candidates in the Special Election to fill the 150th House District's vacant seat. The events that transpired that evening --which included a Republican candidate running away from his party's standard-bearer as hard as could be-- are certain to be of great concern to Republican candidate Jason Smith, Governor Matt Blunt, and the entire Missouri GOP.
For the crowd of approximately 60 sitting in the Steelville community center and watching the forum, one overarching theme became clear just moments after the questions begun: even in a district which performs at more than 56% Republican, the positions on Medicaid and healthcare propounded by Matt Blunt and the Republican legislature have become politically untenable.
