Missouri Right to Life, escalating its war of words with Matt Blunt, yanked its seal of approval from the governor Thursday because of his support for stem-cell research.
The group, one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Jefferson City, said that its board of directors had declared that Blunt “can no longer be considered pro-life.”
Pam Fichter, president of Missouri Right to Life, said Blunt could not continue to placate social conservatives by opposing abortion rights while pandering to the business community by supporting research that destroys human life.
“The governor’s statements are contradictory,” Fichter said. “On one hand he talks about how pro-life he is. Then he supports one of the biggest anti-life measures ever proposed in this state.”
