St. Louis info please?

son has been courted by university for two years but he's afraid it's a provincial thinking red neck city..

1. St. Louis is more of an eastward looking city than say Kansas City.

If he's looking a Washington U. I understand a lot of east coast kids go there. There are "red necks", but many are still Dems. I wouldn't call it "provincial", it has a lot of very old money, old architecture, and cultural activities, and many great restaurants. Forest Park is a great place to visit.

The worst problems I have with it are the climate, I hate humidity, and the driving. They don't have anything close to a grid system. Hubby's family is from there.

3. St. Louis has it's conservatives,

but most of them are in the suburbs...the city itself, and the area around Wash U and the Clayton area are pretty liberal.

West County, you'd find plenty of conservatives, and South County is a bit more red-neck (though they tend to still be union/working class/Dem - Russ Carnahan, son of the late Governor and former Senator (Mel and Jean) is in the Congressional seat in South County - Gephardt's old seat.

William Lacy Clay is the Rep. for much of the City and North County (my Rep.), and he's a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and is quite safe in his seat.

county. St Louis city and the inner ring suburbs like U City and Clayton are VERY blue. Wash U has some liberals but remember it is the home of a think tank named in honor of Murray Weidenbaum who served in the Reagan administration.

The Missouri part of Metro St. Louis went Kerry, by somewhere around 55%

It's no San Fran but for the midwest, St. Louis City is pretty Liberal.

Wash U is where I first saw the Laramie project played.

Saint Louis U...not so much. Though the staff and faculty seem, on the whole, more liberal than the students.
