In Blunt’s infantile world, kids fend for themselves

I guess Gov. Matt Blunt would sooner keep Missouri’s foster kids cooped up in institutions than place them with gay foster parents.

But when you’re Blunt, you play to your conservative base by digging in your heels.

Judging by the figures, you’d think the state’s foster care system would be in no position to turn away caring adults of good character — whatever their sexual orientation.

As of March, 10,398 children were in the state’s foster care system.

“Is there room in your heart for a foster child?” the Department of Social Services asks on its Web site.

Matt Blunt, it seems to me, is the one who should be searching his heart right now, rather than playing politics with the welfare of children.
