worst prez ever coming to KC on Friday, September 8th |
|
He will be here for a $1000 a plate fundraiser for Senator Jim (no)Talent. The event is being held at the Ward home at 55th and Ward Parkway. It starts at 4:00.
BTW, the Wards are Russell Stover heirs, so if you haven't stopped buying their candy, it isn't too late to stop now.
Preliminary plans are to meet at 3:00. The meeting place is still undecided, and depends on whether they close Ward Parkway or not. They are also considering getting buses to drive us to the protest site, since you can't park on Ward Parkway or on 55th St. If they don't close Ward Parkway, that grassy median is an ideal spot for our protest. I am guessing the closest parking will be at Loose Park at 51 and Wornall.
Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) is planning on bringing a group from Columbia. They were part of the protest when bush was in St. Louis in June and have some good suggestions as well as a working relationship with the Secret Service.
Other groups involved are KC Iraq Task Force, KC Peaceworks, KC Code Pink, MO Pro-Vote, Veterans for Peace, DFHA, KC DU group and 63rd St Patriots. I am sure I am leaving some groups out, but it is not intentional.
We need to give dubya a good ole KC welcome. We need hundreds of people! Please spread the word!! We want people from all over MO and KS! I will update with specifics when they are available.
A planning meeting will be held Monday August 28 at the SEIU Union Hall at 47 and Paseo at 5:30. If you can't come, there will be an email sent out after that meeting. In the meantime, spread the word to all your friends and neighbors.
SEPTEMBER 8TH!! MARK YOUR CALENDARS - GET YOUR SIGNS READY!!
WORST PRESIDENT EVER IN KC!

5. Anyone here a member of the College Dems? |
|
If so, can you contact nearby chapters to encourage them to join us? KS: http://www.collegedems.com/echapters/state.php?state=KSMO: http://www.collegedems.com/echapters/state.php?state=MOThe email is a template, so it would be easy to simply paste the same message in each one. I would recommend a referral back to the DU Kansas and Missouri forum threads. Something like this: Bush is coming to Kansas City on Friday, September 8
Please get a group together and join us in protesting Bush and his administration of death.
Check the MO/KS forums at Democratic Underground:

8. I will definitely be there... |

But I really doubt we'll get anywhere near the site.
When Bush was here a couple of years ago, we weren't subjected to an Orwellian First Amendment Zone and the KCMO cops were fairly cordial - their only request was that we stay on the sidewalk and not block the streets. We got to line the route his motorcade took (I got to flip him off) and we were able to congregate pretty much all around the Municipal Auditorium.
This time, he'll be in a residential neighborhood - and a wealthy one at that - and our access is going to be much more limited. It's a pipe dream to think we'll be allowed on the median on WP. My guess is that Ward Parkway will be closed for blocks with detours set up. As much as I hate to say it, we'd be better off figuring out where his motorcade might pass and setting up there. I think the Iraq Task Force has a contact in the mayor's office and I'll check with them to see if a protest site that's acceptable is being coordinated from that end.
I do laugh, however, to think of how nervous the fatcats on Ward Parkway are feeling given that their tony neighborhood will be flooded with proles like me. That alone is kind of fun to contemplate.
