I was prepared for a Talent Win |
|
Jim Talent was never a very polarizing figure. He had tons of cash and he had the advantage of being in a close but SLIGHTLY Republican-leaning state.
Missouri Democrats here have been on the losing end of a Republican tide for several years now. There was the '02 Senate loss. The loss of both Houses of the State Legislature to radical Southern-friend Republican supermajorities. McCaskill's own loss to Blunt in '04. Bush's TWO victories here in both 2000 and 2004 (by SEVEN points that one!).
And so while I worked my ass off for Claire - phonebanking, canvassing, even donating some - I was emotionally prepared for a Talent victory. National Democrats had been burned too often and that went doubly for Missouri Democrats.
Anybody else feeling this way? I'm not stunned by Claire's victory - I always thought it was possible. But I hadn't emotionally let myself think it actually may happen.
So imagine my satisfaction. I'm sure I'm not alone.
And yesterday morning, Nov. 8, after several cold, wet, and cloudy days, it was 70+ degrees and sunny. Not a cloud in the sky. It was a perfect conclusion to the last few months.

with all his money and the fact that I don't think the votes are always counted correctly. BUT I'm so happy that she did win. My throat is still sore from screaming! lol! You're right about yesterday, it was beautiful and peaceful! Hope you get all rested up from all your hard work!
