Act Now to Protect Minimum Wage Increase |
|
Mo. Republicans out of touch with overwhelming majority of state's voters
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch today published an article outlining Republican efforts to undo the minimum wage increase approved by 76 percent of Missouri voters. Some out-of-touch Republicans have already gone on record admitting they would consider altering the popular proposition that passed Nov. 7.
We cannot let these Republican lawmakers ignore the wishes of three-fourths of Missouri voters because of their ties to deep-pocketed special interests. Please call the offices of Speaker of the House Rod Jetton, R-Marble Hill, Senate President Pro Tem Michael Gibbons, R-Kirkwood, and Gov. Matt Blunt to let them know Missouri families won't accept a pay cut after three quarters of Missourians gave them a raise.
The nearly 200,000 adults currently earning close to $11,000 per year and the 102,000 children of those adults who are to benefit by the minimum wage increase are being threatened by the Republican leadership and their ties to special interest groups.
Democrats believe all Missourians who work hard deserve the right to make a decent life for their children, but it seems we need to remind Republicans of that fact.
Speaker of the House Rod Jetton: (573) 751-5912 President Pro Tem Michael Gibbons: (573) 751-2853 Governor Matt Blunt: (573) 751-3222

but in case you aren't, he's a teacher and former reporter who has been keeping tabs on some of Blunt's activities. The most recent is the Donayle Whitmore-Smith appointment. You might want to take a look. http://www.rturner229.blogspot.com/
