Missourians, how did you fare during the storm?
Well folks, our power just kicked back on, and things are starting to look up a bit, down here in Southwest Missouri. We, as in my wife, and her parents and I have been without power since friday night, because we had three ice storms come through.

The first ice storm was...bad...we lost power about 3hrs(10pm Friday night) into that storm, and the next storm(Sat) was rather weak, but made our tree's/situation a bit worse. The tree's all around us have been exploding like mad, if you stand outside for a few seconds, you can hear the tree's just popping/cracking. They sound like shotguns/rifles going off when they crack/snap, its...eerie.

The third ice storm was half as bad as the first one, and the tree's were falling like...Bush's approval rating, and thats...saying something. My father in law and I were taking care of fallen tree's for a majority of yesterday, and a good three hours today.

Today has been rather, weak as far as precipitation goes, which is very good. Our temps, are going to be brutal for a few more days, but we got our power back.... :D

We did rather good...we had a wood stove, and cooked chicken, mashed potato's, corn, pizza, sloppy joes, cake, and a few others...we were trying our hand at cooking, and we did pretty good...although, my wife burned the corn bread, but I smiled, when I ate it.... :D

But, it feels good to be back, with power....So, did anyone else get hit? I heard St. Louis, and ST. Charles got hit, and so did Springfield...

1. Mid Missouri here, and we did OK
I live out in the boonies of Callaway County. We probably got about four inches of a sleet, freezing rain combination, but were fairly lucky. The system that came through Sunday dropped only rain, for it actually made it up to around 32-33 degrees, so little if nothing froze on the lines or trees. However it did become standing water on the ground, sitting on top of the previous ice buildup from Friday and Saturday. Thus it froze, and all flat surfaces became even more of a skating rink.

Didn't have many power outages, about thirteen thousand in this area, but many, many accidents as people insisted on going out when they shouldn't, and then driving like it was clear and dry:eyes: My wife and I stayed in all weekend, just going out to keep our paths clear and feed the birds(big flocks over the weekend, all of their normal food sources were frozen over). Our driveway and lawn are skating rinks, but the young trees in our orchard came through without losing any branches.

Glad to hear your doing well. We don't have a woodstove yet(soon to be purchased), but we've got a kerosene heater in case the electric goes. SW Missouri, and Springfield especially are notorious for getting hit with lots of ice, and lots of tornadoes. I lived down there for four years and experienced two of each.

Take care, and stay warm, it looks like it will start to thaw on Thursday.

12. Springfield here-our power back on at last
It was out for 7 days 2 hours 10 minutes. Lost electricity Fri 12 and they turned it back on at 11:10 last night. Brrr.

We have a generator and gas range for cooking so were able to stay in our home. Our carbon monoxide detector went off three times. That was scary. We turned EVERYTHING off to sleep, didn't even leave one candle lit.

There are still far too many folks here without service. City Utilities says it may take another week for some of them. 4-6 inches snow is expected again today but not much ice.

2. KC is very cold but fared better than most in MO
We got freezing rain starting Friday. It was off and on until Sunday afternoon. Then it snowed but not very much. Today it is just bitter cold.

Most schools are out today.

3. Brrrrr!
Hugs to everyone suffering in Missouri without power, with downed trees, with ice everywhere and all other hardships associated with this kind of a storm. I went through it in KC years ago, but this time we were very lucky.

The better-traveled streets here are OK -- or at least they were yesterday last time I was out -- but my particular street, driveway, and front porch steps are an ice mirror and if I should venture outside I will go down the steps on my backside because I'll end up that way anyway. Need more ice melt!

5. Most schools and plants are
closed today....some schools in our county are still without power, I believe the HS in Anderson is only partially back on line, and Noel I think is online, but the rest of the school's are out of power still...I believe school will more than likely, be cancelled until Thursday....

6. We're just outside KC and we fared much better than you guys
further south, like Proud2Blib said. I do remember quite clearly 5 yrs ago (I think it was) when we had the terrible ice storm, and the tree limbs were popping off like you described. The amazing thing was how the trees rebounded the next summer. My husband wanted to cut down an elm in the front yard after the storm, because it just looked like a lonely spear sticking up, but it leafed out quite nicely.

I'm glad you've got your power back. That is NO fun and I speak from experience!

7. I remember an ice storm about 5yrs ago
it the first time I was in one...I want to say Dec of 02, or Jan of 03....I was up in Lawrence,KS, and it hit badly...at least 4inches of ice(or damn close)....it was a rough one. Our dorms were without power for roughly ten hours, and the tree's around campus were snapping/cracking like mad...

10. Florissant
A vast improvement over the last two. We were only out of power for 5 hours instead of the 4 days in July and 4 days in Nov/Dec. Gotta love our charming utility.

11. I'm not there yet, but...
The storm got the tree in front of our new home. It also drove my inlaws out of their house and into a hotel. My Mother in law just had surgery days before and needed heat. Once their house hit 50 degrees, they split.

I just hope it clears up around the first of next month so we can get moved in.

13. It is not uncommon for it to snow in April here
Some of the worst blizzards in the midwest have been in the spring.

14. I'm back again...whew...
what a PITA....

we lost it friday the 12th at 10pm....the power came back on monday night, for 26hrs or so...the power went off again wednesday morning at 11am...then it came back on thursday night around 10pm...then went off again around 9am friday morning. The power came back on again, monday the 22nd around 3:30pm, and has been on ever since...I hope/pray the power stays on! I took the damn hottest shower ever today...I finally feel clean...

We had a wood stove, and we had that for heat, and we also cooked on it...we had my mother/father in law over the whole time...and about the only thing that etched on me, was the stir crazy/cabin fever aspect of the situation.

We had a ton of fallen tree's around us, we live out in the country in SW Missouri, and tree's were falling like W's approval rating...I'm glad that you are safe though! On a side note, we had the national guard out in our area, and they even stopped by to check on us...I believe they did a house to house check on everyone....
