Is anyone here from Independence?

I have a chance to go there and work on the Nixon campaign until the election and while I'm excited about the race I need to know if I'll be able to live on the little bit of money they are offering me. Is it expensive there? How much is gas right now?

I have a ton of questions and I'd love to pick your brain if you can give me some insight into the area. :hi:

1. Independence is pretty affordable.

2. California.

I live here cheap because the house is paid for, I just want to make sure I'm not going into the hole by making the move. I was told there's an Extended Stay somewhere around there, problem is, don't know if even that will be affordable.

What's the feeling in the city? Pretty blue, pretty red? Maybe purple?

3. I live in Kansas City.

Just west of Independence. The county we're in is reliably blue. Independence is the home of the RLDS Church as well as Harry Truman. It's got a small town kind of feel to it.
The information I got for Extended Stay says it starts at $29 a day.

7. Independence is part of the KC area

DUer kiteinthewind lives in Independence. And I am only about 30 minutes west.

If you are coming from California, you should be pleasantly surprised by the lower cost of living here. Gas was $4 a gallon when I filled up Sunday.

9. Live in Independence

Been here since 1994. As far as cost of living, it's not bad. However, just know that this town has a corrupt police department and a LOT of ignorant people. You may want to stay in KC, or in Blue Springs, which is right outside Independence to the east.
