"This is a foundational issue in our nation," Lorentzen said of the possibility of state sanctioning of same-sex marriages. "The family was being directly attacked by this kind of attempt to redefine marriage. The vast majority of people recognize this."
Enough people signed petitions to ensure that on the November ballot there will be a choice to make on the issue.
With CI-96, voters will choose either for or against an amendment to the Montana Constitution stating that "only a marriage between a man and a woman may be valid or recognized as a marriage."

Lorentzen said he believes people who are wary of homosexual marriage often gain their beliefs from a straightforward reading of the Bible.
"There are hundreds of verses where you can see what the family is like," Lorentzen said. "There is a mom and a dad, a man and a woman. It's as simple as that."

There are also numerous verses where the "biblical family" consists of a dad, multiple wives, and numerous concubines, which of course is just a nice way of saying sex slave. Abraham and Jacob both had them.

2. It's on the ballot now... |

but I don't understand what difference a constitutional amendment is going to make, legally. It's not going to prevent homosexuality, after all. And it's not like my marriage certificate is invalidated by someone else's. Sheesh.
