Anybody else here involved in higher ed here in NV? |
|
my husband is a prof at UNLV and the governor is absolutely decimating all higher ed in the state. he left a 17-year career at Marshall University in WV for UNLV in 2008 amidst all kinds of promises. he wouldn't move us unless UNLV gave him tenure, which he had at Marshall, and they gave him tenure. he survived the first round of cuts a couple of months ago and we bought a house out here (they're almost giving them away.....). now the Sandoval wants more cuts and DH has been told his job is on the line. DH is very stoic and holds things in. He is even working on his Masters in Public Health to increase his options for the future. He's had his EdD forever and has a really "pregnant resume" (what i call it ;+), but i can't help but worry about him. anybody else involved want to commiserate about what's being done to education in nevada?

this round of cuts too. When will you know? I heard an interview re UNLV the other day on the NPR station--sounds like they'll be cutting a few programs for majors and trying to make most (albeit not all) of the faculty cuts through retirements and otherwise not filling vacant positions. Not as bad as we feared, but of course if you're caught in it, that's not much comfort.
I've only worked as an adjunct a couple of semesters at CSN. I suppose that's not going to be available any more, either.
Anyhow, I hope it works out for you.
