This Thursday night at 5:30, there is a Clark County School Board meeting where we will continue our campaign to get the school board to follow the NCLB Act's provision requiring they notify parents and students as to how to opt out of public schools supplying their information to military recruiters. We will also address the Planning For Life event held last month at Rancho High School where they bussed English-Second-Language students OFF-CAMPUS for a recruiting event sponsored by the Army. We believe the racist targetting of the Hispanic community is totally unacceptable and plan to call it out. We need students, parents, and teachers to show their support by attending this meeting either as speakers or concerned residents of Clark County. The school board meeting will be at the Edward A. Greer Education Center at 2832 East Flamingo Road. Individuals who would like to address the board should call 799-1072 either 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. the day before the meeting or 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. the day of the meeting to be placed on the speaker list.
Friday (11/18/05) afternoon at 3pm, we are honoring National Stand Down Day (
http://www.iraqpledge.org/nov18.htm) at the recruiting station on the SW corner of Nellis and Lake Mead. This will be a nonviolent action where we will be disseminating information to students and parents about how to opt out, information about taking the ASVAB and what that means to take it on-campus, and more information.
Saturday (11/19/05) afternoon at 4pm, we will be having an informational workshop for students and parents where we will explore all the issues surrounding military recruitment in public schools. This event will be held at Enterprise Library, 25 E. Shelbourne Ave, Las Vegas.
